The launch of our Everyday All Over Lotion is something we’re really excited about. We spent well over a year quizzing customers about their ideas of a perfect lotion. They told us they wanted a lotion that deeply penetrates and disappears quickly. They didn’t want any residual oiliness but they also want their skin to feel softer for a long time after application. And, of course, no synthetics or petroleum-derived ingredients allowed.
If you’re female chances are you’ve been told you should never use soap on your face. The source of this instruction usually traces back to someone who had an appointment with a Dermatologist. So what gives?
Why do Dermatologists think soap is so bad for the face? There seems to be three major reasons: 1) soap has been classified as highly alkaline but our face is highly acidic; 2) soap makes your skin dry; 3) soap can prematurely age your face by stripping away natural oils.
All of this makes sense… unless it’s not true.
The first time I used a natural, handmade soap I was hooked. My skin felt so much better and the essential oil aroma elevated my mood… a great way to get clean and moisturized. However, it wasn’t until I saw a TV ad for a nicotine patch that I began realizing the full potential of a bar of soap.
At the writing of this post New Harmony Soap Company is two and a half years young. Stephanie and I have seen our natural, handmade soap business grow to include a great list of natural, handcrafted body care products. Our online store continues to grow in popularity and we are in constant amazement how many folks visit our Outlet Store at 512 Main Street in historic New Harmony, Indiana.
